For The Love Of Pork

The other day I saw this post on Facebook by Moms Who Drink and Swear:

. . . the kids and niece and nephew were not sorry about not saving bacon for me this morning. they know i'm going to santa about this. that's how i roll when it comes to pork products.

First off I have to say that I have a crush on this woman, I want to be her (well I am a Mom, I do drink and I do swear), I love how she tells it like it is - but anyway back to her status - it got me thinking - don't we all truly feel this way about our pork products, which then got me to thinking that hog farming really isn't as glamorous as cattle farming (as I stand in a steamy hog barn wet, smelly and covered in bits of feed and shit) - I can't post pictures of us riding horses across the pasture, of our employees lookin' good in Wranglers and chaps, a herd grazing in the valley - but we work just as hard just in not as picturesque conditions!

So I have decided that today- Monday October 3 - will be National Post For Pork Day - I don't really think I possess the power to declare anything a National day but I am going to anyway, oh heck, while I am abusing power that I don't have why not make it International Post For Pork Day!

So get to it (please) - leave a comment here about how much you love pork, post "I LOVE BACON" on your facebook page, post it on my blog Facebook page, post it on our farm Facebook page, Tweet about it, go up on your roof and shout it for the neighbors to hear, scream it out your car window when your stuck in traffic, text it to all your contacts in your phone!  Show a hog farmer some love - give one a pat on the back - he may smell but your hands will wash, just think about his poor wife, her laundry room smells like that all the time and her garage and sometimes her kitchen where he takes his boots off and her kids and her vehicle and . . . .

Check out all the great websites for some awesome recipes and pork facts!

And go like Indiana Pork on Facebook!

  4. I do love bacon, and sausage. And as far as the stink, Hannah informed me this morning in your driveway that Chris's baby pigs do NOT stink. Apparently they are too cute to stink. Three year old wisdom, and she loves bacon, too!

  7. You go, girl! Sissy can't wait to show pigs in 4-H next year. Why? She says w/a big grin, "'Cause I sure love me some bacon & sausage!"

  8. Hehehehehehe...I'm smiling because you just reminded me of our 4H project this year (1st year Swine) and the horror on my oldest sons face as we tried to load them onto a trailer as RANK BEGINNERS....2 1/2 hours later, we "got 'er done" & I had to go CHANGE my clothes...GLAMOR definitely does not factor in....

  9. You know I love pork! Every Saturday around here is Bacon Day for breakfast! Cut beans today for a few hours. Wooo.... that plus helping to level out a corn bin, might put me close to you on the "how dirty can your get" scale. ;-)
    It's shower time!

Both a "Pat on the Back" and a ((((HUG))))from me also. We are having country style ribs tomorrow. Have a great week.
